Tiki Laverdiere attended the funeral of Tristen Cook-Buckle on the Thunderchild First Nation in the days before her death.
Now, Cook-Buckle’s mother, Nicole Cook, is charged in Laverdiere’s homicide.
The RCMP arrested Wednesday and charged Cook with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle. Cook is from Edmonton and was arrested in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.
Jesse Sangster was also arrested on Sunday and is charged with accessory after the fact to murder and theft of a motor vehicle.
Both are set to appear in court Friday morning alongside the three others charged in connection to Laverdiere’s death. Shayla Orthner, Danita Thomas and Brent Checkosis were arrested and charged earlier in July.
Orthner and Thomas are charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle. Checkosis is facing charges for accessory after the fact to murder, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.
Laverdiere’s remains were found in a rural area outside of North Battleford on July 11. The Edmonton woman was reported missing on May 12.
Buckle-Cook died April 5 at the age of 20.
