Shantel Kalika is looking forward to Wednesday evening in Saskatoon. The Prince Albert native will be racing on her home track at the Wyant Group Raceway.
It’s a stop on the NASCAR Pinty’s series where Kalika is making quite the name for herself.
Last year was very successful for Kalika as she won the championship in the Sportsman series as well as rookie of the year.
“Everybody asks me, what’s your favourite racing memory up to this point, and you know what, winning that championship and the biggest part about it is my name gets to be on the same trophy as my dad,” said Kalika.
Racing is definitely in the family blood. Her father has been racing for 29 years and won the championship in 2011.
It is a passion that can be very expensive and time consuming. Kalika says there have been a lot of sacrifices to get to this level.
“You’ve got to be able to sacrifice things, there are things I have to miss out on with friends and family. I have to miss out on things, but that’s okay because I’m invested in the racing,” said Kalika.
Kalika is very excited to be racing in Saskatoon. She says she will have plenty of support from friends and family in the stands and she knows the track well.
“My whole nine years of racing I’ve been at that track, and I know how to navigate around there,” Kalika said.
