The Western Development Museum was evacuated Sunday afternoon.
At 1:16 p.m. the fire department received a 911 call reporting the smell of smoke that followed a power outage.
Battalion Chief Warren Kukurudza said the smell was caused by a malfunction in the motor of an air-handling unit.
Museum attendee Janis McNutt said it smelled like burning wires and plastic.
Kukurudza said city crews are working to restore power as soon as possible.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident.
