Saskatoon is well known for it’s many outdoor summer festivals that thousands of people attend each year.
One of those taking place right now is a Taste of Saskatchewan. Severe weather is a possibility this Thursday afternoon and Environment Canada has issued a tornado watch.
Scott Ford and his team of managers at Taste of Saskatchewan are monitoring the situation and say they have emergency plans in place if severe weather hits.
“If we see lightning in the area, the first thing is we do is close the entertainment stage, and let our customers and vendors know to take cover,” Ford said.
“We monitor how severe the weather is, and if we determine it gets to an emergency stage two, we would make the decision to evacuate the area,” he added.
Ford also said that festival goers would then be encouraged to seek shelter in nearby buildings.
He said the safety of all the patrons and everyone on site is always first and foremost.
This is the 24th year for a Taste of Saskatchewan, and while other emergency measures have been taken over the years, they have never had to evacuate the site.
