Are you like me, or am I a touch on the sadistic side? I don’t golf regularly, but I do enjoy getting out when I’m with three people I know well. I don’t keep score often.
Anyone who has walked a course with me will tell you that I am terrible. One of the greatest golfers ever, Rory McIlroy, opened with an 8 on the first hole of The Open on Thursday morning.
I can cheer for Rory McIlroy. He was great at the Canadian Open this year, and back in March was superb in claiming The Players Championship in Florida.
This is nothing personal. But when a guy like me, who literally hacks his way through a golf course, sees one of the best struggle like McIlroy did today, I feel a little relieved that it can happen to anyone.
I get some satisfaction in knowing that even the best are prone to an 8 on the scorecard every now and then.
