Two long-time members of the Saskatchewan Rush were scooped up in the National Lacrosse League Expansion Draft held on Tuesday.
The new Rochester Knighthawks chose forward Curtis Knight, while the New York Riptide chose transition Jeff Cornwall.
Cornwall’s tenure with the Riptide may be short lived. Rush GM/head coach Derek Keenan said in a release, they’ve had discussions with New York on getting him back through a trade.
“We hope to get something done that will benefit both teams really soon,” said Keenan.
“It is really tough losing Curtis in the Expansion Draft. He’s been such a good player for us for many years. But that’s the nature of the expansion in this era.”
Cornwall missed all of lasat season due to work commitments but remains one of the NLL’s fastest players and a clutch playoff performer.
Cornwall scored the clinching goal in Game 2 of the NLL final against Buffalo in 2016, the team’s first title in Saskatchewan.
Knight was drafted eighth overall by the Rush in 2012 and was apart of all three of the franchise’s championship teams, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
