A Saskatoon icon has died.
Dan Hicks, better known as Sailor Dan, died in hospital at age 65.
He was being held at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre when he was sent to St. Paul’s Hospital. He died there Tuesday at 2:30 a.m.
Hicks was well-known across the city for selling detailed drawings of boats.
He frequently travelled Saskatoon’s streets. An art gallery exhibit in 2016 compiled stories and photos of people crossing paths with Hicks.
He often wore striped pants and a white sailor’s hat, earning him his famous nickname.
The coroner’s office does not suspect foul play or an overdose in his death.
