It’s shaping up to be a stormy Sunday across the province.
At 10:30 Sunday morning, Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the west-central and south-west parts of the province, including Saskatoon.
Environment Canada meteorologist Blaine Lowry said they’re expecting storms to move into the south-western regions at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday.
“Those storms are going to intensify and grow in number as they move east across southern portions of the province through the evening and into the overnight.”
Lowry said the south isn’t the only area that will be receiving these conditions.
Another area of storms will form through the Prince Albert area, into the northern regions of the province.
The storms are capable of producing heavy rainfall, large hail, severe wind gusts, and a chance of tornadoes this afternoon.
In the past few weeks, Saskatchewan has been hit with isolated storms and showers. Lowry said Sunday will be different.
“This one is going to be a little more widespread. It’s looking like the storms are going to form a line somewhere between Swift Current and Moose Jaw, before they move east through the Regina area.”
The storms are expected to reach Saskatoon in the late afternoon, while Regina is expected to be hit around 5 p.m.
