8:30 – Last week we learned the provincial government is going to stop maintaining nine rest stops on Saskatchewan’s highways, leaving truckers and motorists with fewer places to safely pull off the road for a break. The province says the rest stops were targets for vandalism and dumping, and private facilities such as gas stations and restaurants are filling the need, but the Saskatchewan Trucking Association has called for more rest stops – not fewer. We’ll hear from both sides this morning as John is joined by Highways Minister Lori Carr and Susan Ewart with the Trucking Association. Who do you think makes the stronger case? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and have your say.
LIVE (8:30): Lori Carr, highways minister.
LIVE: (8:45): Susan Ewart, executive director w. Sask. Trucking Association.
9:00 – It was a stormy long weekend in Saskatchewan, as two tornadoes touched down in Meadow Lake Provincial Park Saturday night, leaving three people with injuries and causing widespread damage with winds up to 175 km/h. Dale Liske weathered the storm inside a camper at Lauman’s Landing, and says trees were falling onto his trailer as his family huddled under the table inside, and he saw campers overturned by the high winds. Despite the scary storm, Liske says the community pulled together in the aftermath as everyone with a chainsaw pitched in to help clear the roads and make sure everyone was safe. Liske joins John now to talk about the storm and the cleanup efforts.

9:00 – The Hour of the Big Stories… Open Session
10:00 – The case of Vice-Admiral Mark Norman may have ended last week when the former vice-chief of the defense staff reached a mutual settlement with the federal government over the now-stayed breach of trust charge previously leveled against him. While Norman and the feds may have settled the case, the Conservatives have accused the Trudeau government of using taxpayer dollars to buy Norman’s silence and avoid a black eye leading up to the fall election. Conservative Deputy Leader Lisa Raitt joins John now to talk about the issues with the Norman case and the secretive settlement.
LIVE: Lisa Raitt, Conservative MP for Milton (Ont.) and deputy Conservative leader.
11:00 – With many Saskatchewan residents taking summer holidays, we thought this was a good opportunity to discuss some of the best spots around the province to visit. Did you visit one of the province’s hidden gems over the long weekend? Do you know a spot absolutely everyone should take the time to visit? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and share the spots you think are Saskatchewan’s best-kept secrets.
