Greg Fertuck made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
In the quick appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court, he was remanded in custody until July 22, when he’s to make his second court appearance by video.
He was charged with first-degree murder and one count of offering an indignity to human remains in the death of his estranged wife, Sheree Fertuck.
Crown Prosecutor Cory Bliss spoke outside of Saskatoon Provincial Court following the appearance.
He confirmed that three witnesses were ordered to not be in contact with Greg Fertuck, and those were family members.
Bliss said this is a complex case, and commended the RCMP for continuing to look for the truth in the matter.
“Full credit is due to the RCMP for never giving up, for continuing to search for the truth,” Bliss said. “In this matter, the truth will come out.”
Sheree Fertuck’s remains haven’t been found. She went missing on Dec. 7, 2015, when she was last seen leaving the family farm near Kenaston in a gravel truck.
Bliss said there have been other cases in the province that have been successfully prosecuted without a body. He said there will be more information that will come out in court.
Greg Fertuck had family members in the courtroom for Wednesday’s short appearance.
