30 – Long-time SGEU President Bob Bymoen was set to be suspended last week by the union’s Membership, Constitution and Legislation Committee due to “most egregious behavior that undermines our Code of Ethics, harassment policy, constitution, policy manual and union values.” The committee found Bymoen had made comments to another SGEU staff member that he would like to see Arlen Nickel, a terminated union member with whom he had a strained relationship, “stay fired.” The committee also found he used his position to deny Nickel representation in order to do him harm. The committee recommended Bymoen be suspended for two years, but the decision was overturned as there was no hearing. John’s sharing his thoughts on the case, but we also want to know how you feel, so give us a call at 1-877-332-8255!
00 – The Hour of the Big Stories… Open Session
00 – Well that didn’t take long. Less than a week after the Senate passed Bills C-69 and C-48, a group called “Wexit Saskatchewan” is running a “Can Confederation Be Fixed?” tour around the province, in conjunction with similar groups in Alberta and Manitoba. They had their first meeting in Saskatoon June 12, and will be in Regina June 26 for a second event. Allan Kerpan, former MLA for Carrot River Valley and Reform Party MP for Blackstrap, has been speaking at the meetings, outlining the issues with confederation and possible solutions. While not yet directly pushing for separation, Kerpan says he’d gladly vote for Western independence if Justin Trudeau is re-elected in October. Kerpan joins John now to talk about the tour, and the growing issues with Canada’s national unity.

00 – Tiffani Adams fell asleep on a 90-minute Air Canada flight between Toronto and Quebec City June 9, and when she woke up she was alone and trapped on a cold, dark, airliner and it was some time before she could open a hatch and flag down a baggage cart operator who rescued her. That’s got us wondering – what’s the worst experience you’ve had with air travel? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and share your air travel nightmares.
00 – Saskatoon’s long-awaited “Nutrien Wonderhub,” (formerly the Children’s Discovery Museum) is opening June 28 in the Mendel Building, giving kids an interactive environment that lets them learn through play. Executive Director Amanda McReynolds Doran says nothing is behind glass at the museum, and children are encouraged to physically interact with all of the exhibits. McRaynolds Doran joins John now to discuss the opening and what kids will find in the “Wonderhub.”
