30 – Tensions between the United States and Iran have been rising steadily, with tankers being attacked and the recent downing of an American drone by Iran. According to reports the US conducted cyber attacks against an Iranian intelligence group over the weekend, which could increase the tensions further. Professor Elliot Tepper, a distinguished senior fellow at Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School for International Affairs joins John to discuss the US/Iran tensions, what could happen next, and why we should be paying attention.

00 – The Hour of the Big Stories… Open Session
00 – Are Justin Trudeau, Andrew Scheer, Jagmeet Singh, Maxime Bernier, and Elizabeth May really the best leaders Canada can produce? James Di Fiore, publisher of Blackball Media, says we’re in a crisis of leadership in Canada, and described the lineup of federal leaders as a “poor list of yahoos, posers, puppets, and radicals ready to take their turn in a minority-ruled system, where everyone hates each other,” and says the problem is made worse by political discussions on social media where “everything is satire, or exaggerated, or misleading, or shallow.” Di Fiore joins John now to talk about why he thinks Canada is a nation without any federal leadership.

00 – The Senate of Canada passed Bills C-69 and C-48 on Thursday, controversial legislation designed to add strict rules to impact assessments for resource projects and restrict tanker traffic on Canada’s west coast. Saskatchewan Senator David Tkachuk has been a vocal critic of both bills throughout the process, saying they will make things much more difficult for Canada’s struggling energy and resource sectors. Tkachuk joins John now to talk about the bills and whether (as some like former Premier Brad Wall have suggested) Canada’s national unity could be damaged by the legislation.

00 – A travelling program using karting to teach children (and their parents) about safe driving habits is coming to Saskatchewan next month. KartSTART, in partnership with Toyota, will be coming to Martensville Raceway July 11-13 as one of their 10 stops across Canada this summer. The program gives kids 10 and older their first experiences behind the wheel while teaching them about the basics of driving, such as what makes a car stop, go, turn, and what’s happening inside the vehicle as they drive, giving them a head start in becoming a good driver before ever getting behind the wheel of a full-size vehicle.
LIVE: Russ Bond, semi-retired racing driver, auto journalist, and owner of KartStart.
