The Saskatoon Field House is closing down for the summer for repairs.
The city said it’ll be shutting the doors on Monday and won’t reopen them until mid-September, when upgrades are completed for the running track and the building’s lobby.
All programs run at the Field House will be put on hold until it reopens in the fall.
Jody Hauta, Saskatoon’s manager of recreation facilities and programs, said the main change will be a brand new track surface.
“It’ll be a great track product that will be put down, with a longer life span,” he said. “It’s supposed to be one of the fastest flooring materials for track athletes.”
There will also be some smaller changes to the lobby floor of the building. For instance, the customer service kiosk will be upgraded.
“There will be some noticeable improvements as people come back to the facility,” Hauta said.
He said the total budgeted cost of the project is approximately $2.9 million. It’ll be funded through the city’s cash reserves.
Hauta recommended the Lakewood Civic Centre as an option while the Field House is closed. Its hours will be extended. He provided a full list of replacement options.
