8:30 – Prime Minister Trudeau announced plans for a nationwide ban on single-use plastics Monday, but he didn’t say exactly what products would be banned under the new plan. Some of Trudeau’s critics agreed with the notion behind the ban and want to minimize plastic products in our oceans and landfills, but others saw it as a political stunt that will be an annoyance without making a big impact and worried about the effects a ban could have on Canadian businesses and higher consumer costs. Whenever people are divided, we like to test the winds with one of John’s patented Reality Checks, the most accurate 60-second opinion poll you’ll ever see. Do you support the nationwide ban on plastics or do you see it as an empty gesture? Give us a call at 1-877-332-8255 and have your say!
REALITY CHECK: Is the government doing the right thing by banning single-use plastics?

10:00 – Roger Pielke Jr., a scientist at the University of Colorado Boulder, left the field of environmental science in 2015 after he was subjected to a well-funded smear campaign backed by the Obama White House and leading Democratic congressmen. Pielke was attacked because his research found convincing evidence that showed increased incidents of extreme weather around the world were causing more damage than ever due to increasing populations and wealth, not the changing climate. Pielke was accused of misleading Congress by Obama’s science advisor John Holdren after he presented evidence showing a lack of statistical connections between climate change and the increase in weather-related damages. Pielke joins John now to discuss how we measure extreme weather and the smear campaign that tried to discredit his findings.

12:00 – An event raising money and awareness for prostate cancer is now in its fifth year. “Plaid for Dad” is designed as an accessible program in workplaces encouraging employees to wear plaid on June 14, the Friday before Father’s Day, in order to raise awareness about the 1 in 7 Canadian men who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Robin Speer, Saskatchewan volunteer chair with Prostate Cancer Canada, joins John to discuss the event and why all men should be aware of the risks of prostate cancer.
