Saskatchewan is that much closer to throwing a number of Stanley Cup parties this summer.
The St. Louis Blues have a 3-2 series lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup final after a 2-1 win over the host Boston Bruins on Thursday night. Game 6 of the NHL final is set for Sunday in St. Louis.
If you don’t know, three Saskatchewan-born players — Wilcox’s Jaden Schwartz, Regina’s Tyler Bozak and Saskatoon’s Brayden Schenn — play for the Blues. None of them has ever won the Cup before.
Schenn’s dad, Jeff, has enjoyed the ride.
“I can’t believe it. One win away,” Schenn said Friday. “To be able to get this close is super-exciting. I can’t wait to get back to St. Louis for Game 6 and hopefully finish it off.”
Schenn said the nerves are taking a good hit game in and game out.
“It’s been crazy fun,” he said. “I probably have more butterflies than (Brayden) going into the game right now, but that’s the exciting part.”
Jeff and the whole family are heading back to St. Louis for Game 6, where the Blues will try and win their first-ever Stanley Cup.
The city is buzzing, but Schenn said his family hasn’t started planning a party just yet.
“We’ve got a lot of support, a lot of texts. Everybody’s excited,” Schenn said. “But the team knows they’ve got a lot of work to do here yet, but we’re getting close.”
