8:30 – The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls delivered its report Monday. The three-year, $92-million inquiry concluded that the issue was “race-based genocide” and issued 231 recommendations that call for transformational change across the country (describing them as “legal imperatives” that are not optional). Among the recommendations were a call for a guaranteed annual income for all Canadians, a call to recognize Indigenous languages as official languages, and a call to include cases where there is a pattern of intimate partner violence and abuse as first-degree murder. MMIWG Inquiry Chief Commissioner Marion Buller joins John now to discuss the 1,200-page report.

10:00 – The Gunnar uranium mine site, near Saskatchewan’s northern border, was abandoned in 1963, leaving behind a huge environmental mess. Remediation work at the mine site has been ongoing for more than a decade and cost an estimated $280 million so far, with lots of work left to be done. The provincial and federal governments signed a memorandum of understanding back in 2006 to evenly split the cost of the mine site cleanup and remediation (then estimated at just $24.6 million), but according to the Province, Ottawa has only provided about $1 million so far. As a result, Saskatchewan is suing the federal government for $61.8 million. Energy and Resources Minister Bronwyn Eyre joined Saskatchewan media on a tour of the site Monday, and she joins John now to discuss the mine cleanup and lawsuit.
