8:30 – The House of Commons Privacy and Ethics Committee is hearing from social media firms this week in a special series of international meetings including politicians from Germany, the UK, and Ireland. Among those giving evidence was former Facebook advisor Roger McNamee, who encouraged the government to shut down social media platforms until they can be reformed, saying it would protect democracy and liberty. So are Facebook and Twitter real threats to democracy in Canada? To help answer that question Drew is joined by Michael Geist, law professor and Canada Research Chair in Internet and E-Commerce Law at the University of Ottawa.
