The Prince Albert Raiders are going back to the Memorial Cup for the first time in 34 years, after defeating the Vancouver Giants 3-2 in overtime on Monday night.
Dante Hannoun grabbed the game-winning goal with 1:35 remaining in the overtime period, capping off a stellar postseason with his 14th marker of the campaign.
The Raiders won Game 7 in front of a sold out crowd at Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert, surviving a series comeback from the Giants after being up 3-1 in the series.
Noah Gregor scored the other two goals for the Raiders, while Milos Roman potted both goals for the Giants.
Ian Scott made 22 saves in the victory, and after the game was named the playoffs’ most valuable player.
The Raiders claim their second franchise WHL title, and will return to the Memorial Cup — a tournament they won in 1985.
The national CHL championship begins on Friday in Halifax.
