We’re often reminded that construction season is ‘short-term pain for long-term gain.’
We’ll need to remember that this summer when we’re trying to get around the city.
“So overall this year, we are improving 183 lane kilometres of roads,” said Angela Gardiner, the City of Saskatoon’s general manager of transportation and construction.
That’s about the same amount of one-lane roadway between Saskatoon and Kindersley.
That means drivers should expect detours and delays throughout the city over the next several months.
“At the end of the season, once we’re through all this, we will see better improved road conditions overall,” Gardiner said.
Construction crews will be doing what they can to minimize the impact on drivers.
“In the past we have taken on a lot of that work overnight and then were able to open up the road, or lanes of traffic, throughout the day,” Gardiner said.
The biggest projects include resurfacing work on College Drive from the city limits to the CP rail overpass.
Work is also being done on Circle Drive from Millar Avenue to the Circle Drive north bridge.
As well, crews will be resurfacing a southern section of Boychuk Drive and parts of Kenderdine Road.
As many drivers are also very much aware, work on the Sid Buckwold Bridge has already started.
Nearly 400 properties in City Park and Riversdale will be getting water main replacements and or connection work done as well.
