The RCMP’s recent seizure of six all-terrain vehicles in La Loche has been answered by the slashing of the tires on a police vehicle in the northern community.
Since the start of April, RCMP officers in the town have received a number of calls about people driving ATVs in an unsafe manner. According to a media release from the RCMP, officers have attempted more than 20 times to pull over the drivers only to watch them take off.
This past weekend, the RCMP addressed the problem. After a couple of nights of covert surveillance, six ATVs – all of which the RCMP says fled after being pulled over – were seized.
No one was arrested because police say the drivers hid their faces with bandannas and balaclavas.
On Tuesday, however, the tires on a police vehicle parked outside the residence of an on-call RCMP officer were slashed in what the RCMP called an act of “retaliation.” The RCMP is seeking information about the identities of the tire-slasher and the ATV operators.
