Entrepreneurs are trying to get new products on the shelf as people look to incorporate more plant-based protein into their diets.
At least that appears to be the case at the Saskatchewan Food Centre in Saskatoon.
“We’ve seen, especially on product development and some of the newer products we’re working on they would fit in the plant-based food category,” Vice President of Innovation Shannon Hood-Niefer said.
The food centre helps people tweak recipes for large scale production and prepare products for sale.
“It’s funny because we started 20 years ago primarily as a meat facility,” she explained.
According to Hood-Niefer, most plant-based protein projects the centre is working on are still in the product development phase.
