A 27-year-old man is facing charges after Saskatoon police were called early Tuesday morning with a report of a break and-enter.
Officers were sent around 3:30 a.m. to a home on the 1600 block of Arlington Avenue, where a woman said she’d been woken up by her dog barking and discovered her purse, wallet and car keys missing and her front door open.
A canine unit led officers to a series of parked vehicles that had apparently been broken into, according to a police media release.
A patrol officer headed to the scene reportedly spotted the suspect as he came out of a yard near Taylor Street East and Arlington Avenue.
The man reportedly had his face covered as he crossed the street in front of the officer while carrying a backpack and a purse.
Police said the officer arrested the man without incident.
Along with the purse, the suspect was reportedly found with items believed to have been stolen from vehicles.
By Tuesday afternoon, police said the man was being charged with break and enter and theft under $5,000. Further charges were expected.
Anyone who believes they may have been a victim in the incident was asked to call the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 go to Police Headquarter at 76 25th St. E. to file a report.
