It was October 1st of 2016.
I was standing with Warren Woods, my good friend of 30 years, and with Regina Mayor Michael Fougere. The fall sun was beating into the press box that we were standing in on a gorgeous fall day as we took in the sights of the new $278-million Mosaic Stadium.
The first event, a Rams/Huskies football game, was moments away from starting. It was breathtaking.
While we were chatting, Fougere was sure to make the point that the stadium belonged to the city of Regina. It was a fact he reminded everyone of again on Wednesday.
For those that may have forgotten, construction funding for this facility breaks down like this. The City of Regina came up with $173 million, the provincial government made an $80-million contribution, while the anchor tenant, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, contributed $25 million of the $278 million required to construct this state-of-the-art venue.
This just seemed to be a good time to remind everyone of that.
