Saskatoon police say an officer had to be taken to hospital for treatment after responding to a call on Monday evening.
The officer reportedly suffered a broken hand in the course of helping perform a welfare check on a man at a home on the 600 block of Confederation Drive.
Police said they were told the man was believed to be in a vulnerable state and presented a potential risk to himself and the public.
Officers accompanied by Saskatoon Mobile Crisis found the man parked in his truck around 5:30 p.m. on the 300 block of Smallwood Crescent.
Police said the man got aggressive and refused to comply with police instructions.
A scuffle reportedly broke out as police tried to take the man into custody. Police said that’s when the officer’s hand was broken. Another officer was allegedly spit on.
The 32-year-old man was eventually arrested and charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer.
