Uber’s first month in Saskatoon has gone well for at least one driver.
The company became the first to take advantage of new provincial and city regulations allowing for ride-sharing when it started operating in February.
Nikki, who asked that her last name not be used, told the Brent Loucks Show she’s driven about 250 trips since then.
“You can drive whenever you want. You can go for an hour, you can go for two hours. You can break for lunch whenever you want.”
She said the company requires a six-hour window between shifts, which are capped at a maximum of 12 hours.
She said a busy weekend evening might see her do as many as 30 trips.
While Uber does have some restrictions compared to a regular cab, particularly when it comes to things like picking up fares at the airport, Nikki said she offers perks not available from traditional taxis.
“I have candy, mints, gum, water, phone chargers, lotion, feminine hygiene products, like, anything you could think of, I should have it,” she said.
So far, Uber remains the only ride-share company operating in Saskatchewan.
