We in the Canadian media need to stop taking the bait.
Some Canadian outlets were quick to report on the American reporting of Johnny Manziel’s arrival in the CFL when he joined the Tiger-Cats.
When ESPN or another Unites States outlet aired a story of Manziel’s Canadian journey, some reporters were intrigued that the CFL was getting ink or air time in the United States.
The required validation points to an inferiority complex that I will never understand.
From a journalism standpoint, there are some that really need to do better on this side of the border.
Johny Manziel, like Vince Young, Ricky Williams and Dexter Manley before, never made an impact in the Canadian Football League.
They came, they left. (The exception to this rule is Doug Flutie who was one of the greatest to play on both sides of the border.)
The CFL is full of its own stars. Canadian media outlets across the country need to give the players that are helping their CFL teams win the front page billing.
