The man who pleaded guilty to stealing a SUV and abandoning a child inside of it will learn his fate Wednesday afternoon in North Battleford provincial court.
The September theft prompted an Amber Alert across the province and an hours-long search for the missing six-year-old girl who has autism.
Nineteen-year-old Johnathan Ryan Gunville pleaded guilty on Oct. 25 to charges of abandoning a child, theft of a vehicle, operation of a vehicle dangerous to the public and driving while disqualified.
RCMP issued the Amber Alert on Sept. 16 when the SUV, with the girl inside, was stolen from a strip mall in the north Saskatchewan city.
Along with having autism, the girl is epileptic and non-verbal.
She was found safe almost 14 hours later — still inside the SUV — a few kilometres away from where it was stolen.
Other charges, including abduction and unlawful confinement related to the incident, will be spoken to at the conclusion of the case.
