00 – The Hour of the Big Stories… Open Session
00 – Is a universal basic income a viable strategy for the future? Economist Dr. Jack Mintz recently wrote on the subject for the Financial Post, saying that while a UBI is touted by Mark Zuckerberg and Silicon Valley execs, the reality might not be what they expect. While many expect new technology to eliminate jobs in the future, Mintz argues that innovation creates more jobs than it eliminates. He also says it would be a big challenge to get unemployed people back to work while providing them with a government-guaranteed income. Dr. Mintz joins John now to talk about the realities of universal basic income.
LIVE: Dr. Jack Mintz, economist, analyst, and President’s Fellow of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary.

30 – Author and political scientist Mark Milke joins John to discuss his latest book “Ralph vs Rachel: A Tale of Two Alberta Premiers.” The book compares and contrasts Ralph Klein and Rachel Notley. Why did Alberta elect two people who seem very different? Milke joins the show now to discuss that question, and what it could tell us about the province’s electoral future.

00 – You might remember when we spoke to Adam Bielek and Marita Grøtan Heggstad, members of Norwegian band VIMARIDA, last week about their song “Moose Truce.” Well, Canadian musician Dave Carroll (famous for “United Breaks Guitars”) has written a rebuttal song entitled “No Way Norway.” According to Carroll, Mac the Moose should be a point of national pride as the tallest moose statue in the world. Carroll joins John now to talk about his newest song and the ongoing battle for the world’s tallest moose.
