CFL Players Association President Brian Ramsay said it loud and clear on the Green Zone on Thursday – Players deserve more respect from CFL teams.
That could be perceived to be an ominous stand from the association as the league and the players look to hammer out a new
collective bargaining agreement before the start of the 2019 season.
There have been suggestions that players are receiving less than 30 per cent of team revenues right now. That’s a far cry from a 50/50 split in other professional sports leagues.
Now that the $750,000 mark has been hit in a quarterbacks’ salary, the association may take that to mean that there is money to be had across the board.
I’ve talked to a handful of players that were very disappointed in the five-year deal that was approved back in 2014 on the heels of a lucrative television deal.
After listening to Ramsay, it wouldn’t surprise me to see players dig in a little more in 2019.
