I can’t honestly say I’ll run right out and get all sorts of Orlando Apollos gear, but I will say that after watching a small portion of the Alliance of American Football’s opening week that I was OK with it.
Some familiar names such as Bill Polian, Hines Ward and Mike Pereira are lending their expertise to a league which provides players a chance to play following their college careers.
It also gives fans a chance to watch football in what is normally an “off-season.”
The new eight-team league has been clear on its mission statement — the AAF wants to complement the NFL during the off-season and showcase local, developing talent.
The AAF will never be confused with the NFL and is wise not to compare itself to the league with superior skill, wealth and popularity.
Not one player in this league will be able to keep up with a Patrick Mahomes or a J.J Watt.
That doesn’t mean it won’t be an entertaining option for football lovers after the Super Bowl is complete.
