'Considering the circumstances ... this is best-case scenario,' Cole Cusitar said.
The record cold this week has kept many people indoors, but a new winter attraction in Saskatoon will help draw many out of hibernation.
Optimist Hill in Diefenbaker Park welcomes its first winter warriors Sunday with ski and snowboard runs, a tubing area and terrain park.
The free tobogganing area will remain closed for the season due to construction.
The official opening will mark the completion of Phase 1 of the ski hill project, which included raising the hill by 30-feet and installing a ski lift.
The hill opens at 10 a.m. with the grand opening party kicking off at 11 a.m. followed by a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m.
A lift pass is required to ride the hill, but the grand opening event is free to attend.
