It’s shaping up to be a very special day in Swift Current.
Hockey Day in Canada gets underway on Saturday.
Legends like Darcy Tucker, Wendel Clark, Bryan Trottier, Lanny McDonald, Ron MacLean and Don Cherry will be there.
So will Sportsnet’s Ken Reid.
He said the broadcast will pay tribute to Saskatchewan with features about overcoming adversity.
“It’s fun, but it also tells the serious side of things as well. So you are kind of going to go through all those emotions during that 12.5-hour broadcast. Everyone here in Swift Current, they’re going to go through all those emotions,” Reid said.
He says there will be a look back to 1989 when Swift Current won the Memorial Cup, three years after the deadly team bus crash.
Reid was also excited about the alumni game on Friday night.
“That’s a really fun event. Don Cherry comes out and drops the puck. Ron MacLean plays. And if you’ve never seen Ron MacLean play – you’ll be amazed. He has absolute wheels.”
