Inmate recaptured after escaping Saskatoon correctional centre

A 33-year-old inmate at the Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre is back in custody after making a brief bid for freedom Wednesday.

Saskatoon police said officers were called to the jail shortly after 2 p.m. Jan. 16, and with help from a bystander they quickly found the inmate hiding in a pickup truck on 64^th Street East. Police said the inmate suffered minor injuries during his escape and was treated by paramedics before he was returned to custody.

The inmate is now facing a number of charges, including escaping from lawful custody, theft and mischief. Police said he was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
