While the Calgary Flames surged to the top of the NHL’s western conference standings on Wednesday night, a lot of the attention from the game was on a late game exchange between Colorado star Nathan MacKinnon
and his coach, Jared Bednar. Calgary beat Colorado 5-3 in a hard fought affair.
It was amazing that neither the coach, nor the player, was asked about the blow-up at the end of the game by media members. The footage of the exchange is on every network, and Bednar and MacKinnon may still be
asked about it. The incident happened because this Avalanche team is frustrated after winning just twice in regulation time in the last ten games. Sports networks should not be criticized for showing the exchange
and telling the story.
Publicity of the incident isn’t what the team wants, but it is newsworthy. Such scrutiny is the one of the prices paid for being part of the NHL.
