Remember this moment! I say that a lot as it pertains to the quality of officiating in CFL and NFL football. There is little difference in the level of officiating in both leagues.
Officials are human and like athletes, can have bad games. The crew that worked Sunday’s Eagles/Bears NFL wildcard contest had a bad game.
The play that caught my attention came in the second quarter.
Bears receiver Anthony Miller clearly had possession of a pass, then battled with Eagles defensive back Cre’von LeBlanc.
The ball came loose and the officials incorrectly whistled the play down at that point. Players stopped and the official picked up the ball.
After a long wait, the officials ruled that it was an incomplete pass. The whistle, which shouldn’t have been blown, may have prevented Philadelphia from getting possession of the ball.
I’m not mad. It’s a mistake. Everyone in a field of play makes them.
Canadian CFL haters need to remember the date Jan. 6, 2019 when a Canadian Football League crew makes the same sort of mistake in the future. It happens, everywhere.
