A Kamsack family is getting the best Christmas present of all this year: a clean bill of health for their daughter.
Brittney Durell said her daughter Zarah Googe, 3, has been undergoing monthly chemotherapy treatments in Saskatoon since being diagnosed with leukemia in 2016, when she was just 16 months old.
“It seems like we’ve been doing this for years and years and we were never getting close to the end and finally, it’s here,” Durell said.
She said it’s been hard watching her little one fight the disease and the upheaval of having to get her to appointments has affected the entire family.
“We have the middle child, who’s 4, who missed pretty much her entire pre-K school year last year and this year also.”
Durell said doctors have confirmed Zarah’s cancer is in remission. She goes for her final treatment in February.
“Just to be able to have somewhat of a normal life again, it’s going to be good.”
Durell said this year will be the first time in three years her entire family of six will all be around the table for Christmas.
