Great moments can have more meaning during tough times.
The first half of the 2018-19 season has been trying for the Philadelphia Flyers. Any positive press seems to revolve around the team’s mascot. The Flyers have lost about 60 per cent of their games from October to December, and fired GM Ron Hextall and coach Dave Hakstol.
That’s what makes the events of Dec. 18, 2018 so special.Sherwood Park’s Carter Hart made his first NHL start, and won his first NHL game in net for the Flyers — 3-2 over Detroit.
What made it special was the visuals that went along with that game. Carter’s mom Shauna lived and died with every shot he faced. She was a social media sensation. Carter’s success brought her to tears. Reality TV gets no better.
Flyers, ownership, management, coaches and veteran players would no doubt like a do-over on this first half of the season. For one night at least, Carter Hart and family may not want to change a thing about being part of this Flyers team.
