It is encouraging that the National Lacrosse League has gone from 9 to 11 teams with some very impressive ownership groups taking interest.
I do have some questions though.
Will this league ever get to a point where players are more than “Weekend Warriors?”
Many players hold down jobs, then fly to their respective games on weekends. There are some fans, and even some within the National Lacrosse League that believe their league is on par with the NHL and CFL. It’s not, and won’t be until more players can play full time and have deeper roots in the cities they play in.
Will games return to Canadian network television?
Sportsnet and TSN have aired games in the past. Now, the league has a digital deal with The Bleacher Report. Yes more people are going digital, however, over-the-air network games can be streamed. The CFL, NHL and NFL wouldn’t get the rights fees they get if all they did was stream games. Here’s hoping a non-streaming, non-digital, over-the-air Canadian TV deal is on the horizon to further promote growth.
