There’s the Festival of Trees at the Western Development Museum.
There’s the Enchanted Forest at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo.
And then there’s Scott Lambie’s house on Clinkskill Drive in Saskatoon’s Nutana neighbourhood.
All are considered a must-see around this time of year.
Lambie is known for putting on one of the city’s most impressive Christmas light displays.
He goes all out.
“We actually rent a lift from The Rent-It-Store so we’re not hanging from ladders,” Lambie said.
He said they started the display six years ago with about 25,000 lights. It has since grown to about 75,000 lights.
With so many bulbs, you would think Lambie’s power bill might be through the roof.
In fact, he said, it has actually come down over the years thanks to the switch to LED lights.
He said the display costs him about $90 a month. With people coming out in droves night after night to take in the spectacle, he said it’s worth it.
“There’s probably close to about 10,000 people that stop outside of our house and watch it every year,” Lambie added.
He said he and his wife have a pretty simple reason for going to the effort each year.
“We like doing it. That’s all I can say. It teaches you how to program, how to organize your time, and my wife just loves walking the sidewalk, talking to people while handing out the candy canes.”
You can check out Lambie’s display for yourself at 2706 Clinkskill Drive.
The lights usually come on at around 5:30 pm each night.
