Some members of the “Rider Nation” are piling on the CFL right now.
I’ll admit that those who regularly criticize the league’s officials have ammunition to work with following the Odell Willis hit on Zach Collaros on Saturday.
Chris Jones had to use his challenge flag to get a 15-yard penalty that should have been called by referee Andre Proulx and his crew.
The fact that Zach Collaros wasn’t immediately pulled by injury spotters after the hit has made some question the league’s player safety policies.
However, humility from the commissioners office has been refreshing.
Yesterday Randy Ambrosie said not just officials and spotters are to blame, but so is the league for not communicating with media and fans sooner about those oversights.
There is lots to be critical about. Officials need to be better and player safety protocol needs to be assessed.
However, Ambrosie should also be applauded for acknowledging mistakes on the field and that mistakes were made in a lack of communication with fans in this ticket-driven league.
