As Green Zone contributor and Regina Leader-Post scribe Rob Vanstone will tell you, it is a great time to be a Winnipeg Jets fan.
The images from Winnipeg’s Portage Avenue and Main Street intersection were amazing last spring as the Jets advanced to the Stanley Cup’s final four.
I, for one, felt good that a loyal fan base was being rewarded with a terrific effort from its hockey team. The momentum built as this team racked up post season wins over Minnesota and Nashville on the way to the conference final.
Ironically they ran in to an upstart Las Vegas team that also had impressive support in a new market. I felt good for the Jets faithful again on Tuesday when it was announced that captain Blake Wheeler had signed a five year extension.
Who better than to try carry last season’s success over to a new season.
Jets fans deserve not just one, but many years of championship-calibre hockey.
