There’s at least one farmer in Saskatchewan who wants to spend more time with politicians.
Megz Reynolds farms just north of Swift Current near the community of White Bear.
With harvest underway, she recently took to Twitter to issue an open call to anyone with the provincial or federal government who wanted to come spend a day with her on her combine.
Speaking Tuesday on Gormley, Reyonolds said her message was pretty straightforward.
“Hey, come on out, my door’s open and let’s just have a conversation about grain farming in Canada.”
Reynolds said she got the idea from a social media campaign that’s been active for years in France and the United Kingdom, operating under the hashtag #YourHarvest.
She said she felt uniquely qualified to help explain farming to people who might not have been raised in the industry, as she herself did not grow up on a farm.
“I knew nothing about grain farming until physically moving to one in Saskatchewan,” she said, noting 2018 will be just her sixth harvest.
So far, she said Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence McAulay have both been in touch. She said she anticipated having them out for visits sometime over the next month or so.
#Harvest18 is underway in Saskatchewan and I would like to extend an invitation to anyone involved in provincial or federal politics to come for a ride and talk #CdnAg and grain farming!!
I also invite other farmers to open their cabs up as well!#cdnpoli #skpoli @L_MacAulay pic.twitter.com/bjKfk30D30
