The majority of the 16,654 who went the Alouettes game last night against Edmonton were disappointed — as were the many who watched on television.
Fans who went to the park, and tuned in, wanted to see Johnny Manziel make his CFL regular season debut.
(I won’t lie, I tuned hoping to see Manziel get playing time).
When Manziel makes his CFL regular season debut it will be newsworthy. One would expect that next Friday’s Alouettes vs. Tiger-Cats game in Montreal will generate the same sort of hype.
Alouettes coach Mike Sherman, who said he did have a basic package ready to go for Manziel, is being criticized for not allowing Manziel to get in for a series or two in the second half of the game, when the Eskimos were clearly in control.
I side with Sherman.
The Eskimos had six sacks on the night, as Hamilton’s pass protection was fading. There was no need to risk Manziel’s health in such a one-sided contest.
