Add me to a long list of many that was confused about Chris Jones’ use of quarterbacks in Thursday’s 18-13 win over Hamilton.
(I know what you’re thinking – I can be confused on the best of days.)
There is a reason why a quarterback can make up to 10% of a franchise’s entire payroll in the CFL.
The QB is the leader in this three down league. He has to have the confidence of teammates in order to have a command of the huddle.
In order to have that confidence, the quarterback has to be empowered by the coach.
If players are watching their leader wait for the nod from the coach, drive to drive, that doesn’t exactly instill confidence in the quarterback or the players who are the offensive weapons around the quarterback.
If Zach Collaros is going to be out for an extended period of time, Chris Jones needs to tap either Brandon Bridge or David Watford on the shoulder, then trust that choice.
