My viewing trends for the World Cup are similar to that of the Olympic Games.
I don’t PVR track and field, luge or figure skating events, but when it comes to the Olympics, I’m there.
I can say the same thing about soccer. I don’t set aside time for MLS games or Champions League matches, but come the World Cup, I’m there.
Wednesday’s news that Canada will host 10 games World Cup games in eight years time is huge for many reasons.
I’m happiest for the Canadians who are happiest about this. There are long time soccer supporters that can recall the 1986 World Cup like it was yesterday. It was 32 years ago that Canada made it’s only appearance in a World Cup.
Canada is also much more diverse than it was three decades ago. Having the world’s most popular game come to our nation helps new Canadians feel welcome.
It doesn’t matter if you are hardcore, marginal or indifferent. This is great for our country.
