It’s unfortunate that this Stanley Cup Final may come to an end as early as Thursday.
It appears as if an impressive playoff run by the Las Vegas Golden Knights is going to come up short.
The Knights, who attracted the hard core hockey fans with their style of play, and marginal fans with impressive pregame theatre, are on the ropes against the Washington Capitals.
Even as runner-up the Knights have been a great story, turning a new market in to a hockey market. NHL owners are thrilled.
After a decade and a half, Capitals star Alex Ovechkin is a win away from capturing a championship.
This is a terrific story line in itself. His leadership and demonstrative behaviour in 2018 leaves little doubt that he wants to be a Stanley Cup champion.
Earlier in his career he was criticized for his lack of “want”. No one is saying that about the Great 8 now.
It would be great to see this series extend itself to seven games. However, that’s not likely.
