Saskatoon royal-watchers who can’t make it to United Kingdom for Saturday’s wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may find the Delta Bessborough hotel has the next-best option.
The hotel is hosting a brunch and viewing party for the ceremony, which is set to start at 5 a.m. Saskatchewan time.
Event planner Crystal MacLeod said the hotel’s Adam ballroom will be fully decked out to give royal fans a feel for the glitz and glamour of the ceremony.
“There’s going to be ceiling drape, there’s going to be a beautiful wedding cake, the decor, the fresh florals — it’s essentially going to be walking in to a mock wedding,” she said.
MacLeod said she immediately imagined herself in the role of royal wedding planner when the royal couple announced they’d be getting married.
“My initial thought was, ‘Oh my goodness, what an opportunity it would be to plan a wedding such as that,'” she said.
While she may not have landed the London job, MacLeod said it’s still a thrill to put together a special day for people at Saskatoon’s own castle by the river.
“Everybody is just fascinated with the Royal Family, myself included. So, to be included in that in a small way is just very exciting,” she said.
Guests wanting to attend have two options: The Royal Slumber Party package includes overnight accommodation at the Bessborough on Friday night, allowing people to get to brunch as fresh as possible and then watch the wedding. Or, people can purchase tickets for the brunch-only through Picatic.
