Google shows me it’s 519 kilometres from Estevan, Sask. to Nipawin.
The SJHL’s Estevan Bruins and Nipawin Hawks will make that trek back and forth to determine a league champion in a month marred by tragedy.
A few years ago, a junior coach told me about how much trave;ling with hockey players had changed.
In his opinion, card games and chatter had been replaced by ear buds and streaming video. (It’s been a few years since I’ve been on the road with a hockey team).
Five hours is a long time to spend on a bus. It is important to reflect and be with your own thoughts, especially after the week that was.
There is also something to be said for “team.”
Here is hoping the Bruins, Hawks and every team in any sport, any musical group or any group that regularly travels these highways together enjoys that sense of “team” by at times being loud and even laughing from time to time. It’s important, and doesn’t last forever.
