It’s great to see the optimism and excitement of Blue Jays fans on opening day. Playoff appearances in 2015 and 2016 have fired up Canada’s baseball fans from coast to coast.
A 2018 pennant would be great, but also isn’t likely.
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons recently dished out a dose of reality with this quote about the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees: “The fan base demands that they strive for perfection, and they’ve got the pockets to do it.”
He’s right. The Yankees brought in Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton in the off season. The Red Sox lured outfielder J.D. Martinez to Beantown.
It doesn’t matter where you go, OddsShark, HeroSports, or ESPN. New York is favoured to win the American League East pennant.
Boston is often mentioned as in the mix. Jays fans can hope for a wildcard spot at best. As we’ve seen in the past, even that would drive the fans in Canada wild.
