Congratulations to the next hockey team that hires Dean Brockman.
We don’t know which team that is, but that team will instantly be better.
Brockman’s record speaks for itself. In just over a decade and a half as coach of the Humboldt Broncos, he led the team to one RBC Cup title as a head coach and one as an assistant. There were four SJHL titles as a head coach, and one more as an assistant.
He is a players’ coach. History, even at the WHL level, has shown he gets a lot out of rosters that aren’t necessarily the most talented.
There is also Dean Brockman, the person. Year after year, I remember Brockman working the phones, selling tickets to the annual Broncos lottery. He was leading by example in all aspects of that hockey team.
Not only were players and assistant coaches learning from Brockman, but he was also teaching team employees, volunteers with the team and many in the community what it took to be successful.
A prize free agent in the junior hockey coaching ranks is there for the taking, but likely not for long.
